In the mid-80's I recall watching a marathon of classical movies with Ray Harryhausen-style claymation monsters, i.e. Clash of the Titans and Jason and the Argonauts. One of these had a scene where a man is attacked by a winged monkey or gargoyle on a hill with ruins like the parthenon. It looked like the little claymation gargoyle from The Golden Voyage of Sinbad, but human-sized. I know this is a tough one.

I used to always watch those movies and would have suggested the 2 you mentioned, but apparently you don't think it was either. I'm suffering from CRS but I'll think on it a bit...
Did you try Googling Harryhausen?

I was just trying to remember that one too. It was a harpy (evil woman/vulture)

Found it! The movie is Jason and the Argonauts. That's weird because Ive seen the movie since then and the scene wasn't there.
