This is amazing BUT - my husband bought a car two weeks before he passed away. Somehow when the NYS sales tax was figured the dealership overcharged him by $5.57 cents. I knew nothing about it until I received a check from the manufacturer in that amount, payable to my husband. I held the check until the estate checking account was opened and then I deposited it.
SURPRISE! Four weeks ago it was returned to the bank marked Insufficient Funds and I was charged $25.00 for the privilege of bouncing the check on the bank.
So I called the local dealership which, of course, has no responsibility, no liability, no idea what happened. Then I called the manufacturer and they had no responsibility, no liability, no idea. They told me to fax them the copy of the check marked "insufficient funds" along with the notice from the bank concerning the bounced check fee.
I STILL haven't received the $5.57 plus the bank fee and, again, no one has any idea how this could happen because, "Chuckle, chuckle," of course they have more than $5.57 in the bank.
This is an estate and now I have to explain the fee to Surrogate's Court.
I am steamed, absolutely steamed. I'm considering putting the check on E-Bay for the sole purpose of embarrassing the company. Another auto dealership (Jaguar) has offered to buy it from me because they want to display it in their showroom.
Just wondering - any thoughts on this? I'm just so aggravated -
