I have an older laptop computer with an out of date version of semantec antivirus software. I'm trying to load a new version I just purchased but can't do so until I delete the old version which requires a password to do so. I have long left the company involved so do not know the password. Is there some other way I can get rid of this inoperable software?

You might try this:
Open the Registry Editor (regedit)
Navigate to the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\INTEL\LANDesk\VirusPro tect6\CurrentVersion\Administrator Only\Security\
Change the value for useVPuninstallpassword from 1 to 0
Exit Registry Editor
You should now be able to uninstall the program without it prompting for a password.
Good Luck,

P.S. I don't know why it is splitting VirusProtect6 into two words in step 2 above. It is one word.
