View Full Version : Did my rabbit have a nightmare?

Hi - this morning, my rabbit woke me up by thumping the ground in her cage over and over. I got out of bed and got her out of her cage, and she just let me hold her and was cuddling up to me. This is very unusual, because she normally will not let anyone hold her for more than a few seconds. When I put her down, she started thumping again and ran back to me, so I held and pet her for a few more minutes. When I got tired of holding her, I put her down, and she kept on sniffing everything and getting up on her hind feet and looking around. She sniffed in my closet for a long time and kept running back to me to be pet (she sticks her nose down under your hand). I was wondering if she had some kind of nightmare (if rabbits can have them), or was in pain, or what was going on. I would just assume it was a nightmare, but she was out yesterday unsupervised for about 5 minutes, and there were gummy bears on the ground... I don't know if she ate them. She is over it now, and went right back to sleep when I put her in her cage. Thanks so much!
-Karen

p.s. She is a mix, and we are not sure of what, but we know she is part (wild) cottontail, so if that helps in some way... She is about 5 years old.

I know when any of my dogs ever had a nightmare they would kick their legs and get panicky and want attention so that very well could be it.

Thumping is usually a sign of fear of aggression, sounds like fear this time. As for sniffing around, that's what bunny's do, they love explore and are very curious animals. Don't worry, I'm sure she's fine.
