I have a 9 month old black lab, and we are having so much trouble with him not drinking water from his dish. He is an outside dog and we fill his water dish in the morning before leaving for work but when we get home he has not even touched it... He loves to drink from the hose and we try to give him water from there as much as we can but we are worried that he is not getting any water all day and with the heat I worry. Any ideas or help would be much appreciated!!

Its quite possible that the water gets dirty and warm. Why not try an automatic water feeder.

Thanks for the idea... we have thought about getting one, but we will have trouble getting a hose to his dog house. Your right he won't drink if there is anything in the dish even his own hair! LOL... He is very pickey about things like that.

Most animals like to drink fresh circulating water. They do make these types of bowls. Maybe there issomething wrong with the bowl you have. Try a different bowl

Have either of you tried or know if Kool Aid works in the water? Or is that asking for trouble?

You can put a little chicken or beef broth in the water. Don't leave it out all day it will spoil

When the dog gets thirsty he will drink. He isn't going to die from dehydration because he doesn't like the bowl. He will drink when he is thirsy.

Is his food bowl the same type of bowl? My dog had a huge problem with her water bowl... and I realized it was because her dog tag kept hitting the edge of the bowl and she hated that sound... so I changed the bowl and no problems.
