Hi,

I am fracked. I can not get on AOL 9.1 without having to restart my computer. My signal is excellent and my modem is working. I easily get on with internet explorer, but not straight in with AOL 9.1. When I do get onto AOL 9.1 I get a "non - updated" web page. Sometimes when I restart the computer I get the message waol.exe - Application Error. I have used Norton Anti-virus, Anti-adaware, and reg-cure, but nothing helps me to get on AOL except restarting the computer. Again the web page is not updated when I do get on. I have spent about $100 in programs to fix the problem and wasted 30 hours of my time. I would throw the computer out the window except I need it for job search and research. If there is an incredibly decent soul out there, I would be eternally grateful for his or her help.

Sincerely yours,

Computer Blues!

Fracked, I have your same problem.
I just upgraded to Norton 360; my AOL 9.1 only returns when I restart my computer; I have tried to reset, remove all old AOL applications - have spent hours!
What to do?

Most likely, the problem for both of you is the interaction between Norton products and AOL. See e.g. this thread (https://www.askmehelpdesk.com/advice/t-17270.html). I have avoided Norton products on my Macs for many years because of the many problems they've caused me in the past. Try uninstalling your Norton suite, restart, and see if AOL works for you. If so, I suggest dumping Norton and using McAfee products or one of the other alternatives listed in the thread instead.

Norton in my own experience not only causes problems with other aplications on the PC,but often tend to corrup files. Dissable norton before uninstalling it. How? Press ctrl+alt+del, the task manager box will pop up. Go to processes, look for anything from norton, and choose "end process tree. Now try your AOL software.
Another option will be to completely uninstall AOL from your PC,then go to aol.com page, and look for downloads. Download the latest edition, your problem could be a driver missing or a dll loader from the software.
I used to have AOL installed in one of my network pc's,I took it all out. WHY? Consumes lots of resources and plagues your computer with lots of stuff you really don't use or need.
