Have you thought of a word in a different language? Like Love in chinese or something?

Rabbit, lots of people have tattoos. I have one on my lower back, I don't regret it. I thought long and hard about it before I went and got it done.

My boyfriend got a bunch of tatts when he was my age.. he is 37, and I'm 21. He doesn't always like being asked about them, but he knows that its apart of him and he wouldn't change it.

And they still look pretty good.

Sorry, the chinese thing's been overdone. So is sanskrit.

I have nothing against tattoos... however, loveishard, if you personally don't have anything you like, or is personally meaningful to you, I don't suggest it.

It's like buying a car without actually liking something, you know? Don't go to the lot hoping someone'll sell something to you.

We don't know what will be meaningful TO YOU.

And don't PLEASE do something in another language unless you speak this language, or it's a language of your birthplace or somehow involved with your heritage...

My best friend whose Irish just got a HUGE tattoo of her name French, not only can she pronounce it, but she feels stupid when people ask her about it because it doesn't make sense.

Going along with what chihuahua said...

... to us asians, whenever we see caucasians with chinese tattoos... it baffles us.. . really. Really. Baffles us.

Oh, and sometimes, when we ask, "what does that tattoo say?" and we're told the explanation, we laugh in secret because that's not what it really says.

I don't know how into Shakespeare you are, but one of my favorite quotes is: Seek happy nights through happy days

"Love looks not with the eyes but with the mind."

"Cowards die many times before their deaths,
The valiant never taste of death but once."

“Suspicion always haunts the guilty mind”

"Reputation is an idle and most false imposition; oft got without merit, and lost without deserving"

“An overflow of good converts to bad.”

That's so true. My best friend happens to be Jamaican/Chinesse and when I went to get my tattoo in her language I ask her if it's what I wanted it to say and she said yes. Also, my boyfriend speaks 5 languages, so I ask him too, and he said yes. This was before I get the tattoo.

To loveishard, I don't think you want something too long but a short phrase instead.

loveishard
Jul 31, 2008, 07:27 PM
Yea that's what I want is a short one like 3 or 4 words long.. lol I don't think it will look too attractive if I have a paragraph on my side

What is the tattoo of that you got about a month ago, please? Would you want something that might be complimentary to the one that you already have?

Thanks!

I actually really like this one:
Even though it's a little long..
And it tells you the meaning behind it too..

"The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched - they must be felt with the heart."
-Helen Keller

Beyond The Quote

The greatest things in life are not material, they are rather what we feel and believe. The love we have for those among us is most important. Happiness, love and friendship are the most prized possessions
To have. To experience the world with your heart is the
True way to fulfill your life.

Why a quote?

loveishard
Aug 1, 2008, 01:22 PM
Just because I feel like the can say a lot more then a single word

I tossed around the idea of the word FAITH , and thought that, that word alone means a lot..

But I just want something unique

But a symbol or picture can tell the longest story if you choose the right one!

Not trying to disuade you from what you want, just offering other perspectives.

loveishard

that's true and I appreciat it =]

You know flowers all have lots of symbolism and hidden meaning.

My name is Cherish, and there is now an azalea plant named Cherish, so I was thinking about this... but it's really not that cute!

LOL, maybe look into some flowers...

ISneezeFunny

... I really like the name Cherish.. . possible future daughter name?. :: ponders ::

If you have a thing for phrases... have you seen megan fox's tats?. ::drools::

ChihuahuaMomma
Aug 1, 2008, 01:40 PM
Thank you! I had a patient the other day that was amazed with my name and said that he was definitely going to name his first daughter Cherish, and he'd send me a picture. I was a little creeped out.

And who is Megan Fox?

loveishard
Aug 1, 2008, 01:40 PM
Yea flowers are always nice.. but almost everyone has a flower tattooed on them you know..

Mys sisters firls tattoo was a flower my other sister has a flower on her foot...
My mom has one on her back and my sister in law just got a few on her foot as well

And those are people from my family.. imagine all the people in the world that have them lol

Not trying to be negative on your idea..

I just like to try and be a little different then others..

The tattoo I have now I drew myself and designed

But I'm kind of leaning with the word FAITH

I think that word alone says a lot.

But when I get the tatto its not going to be just the word.. its going to have a desing to go along with it.

ChihuahuaMomma

I saw a tattoo once that said faith and then it said something else upside down. It was how it was designed... I'm not sure what it was.

loveishard
Aug 1, 2008, 01:46 PM
I think its faith and hope

They have a lot of words like that its actually really cool I was going to get one as my first tattoo
But decided to get what I have now

They have one.. my friend has it it say life and you turn his arm upside down and it says death

ISneezeFunny

Who's megan fox?

... WHO'S MEGAN FOX!. oh... oh chi... oh...

Girl from transformers. She has multiple tattoos... one on her back (line from king lear) and one on her ribcage (some poem)... a name here, a flower there, etc.

Faith. I always figured if I was going to get a tattoo... it'd be in latin.. . I know... it goes against my "other language" deal... but... it's different. It's a dead language, and I speak it... a bit.

What do you think about sola fide? (means only faith... or... faith only)

Maybe... veritas? (truth... but it's been overdone by the guys from boondock saints)

loveishard
Aug 1, 2008, 01:47 PM
Why not?

ChihuahuaMomma
Aug 1, 2008, 01:48 PM
Make sure to get something that means a lot to you.

I have a friend that got a tattoo and she said she likes it now but she plans on getting it removed in 5 or 10 years. Which boggled my mind. If you know you won't like it in the future, why get it? She's kind of strange anyway. :P

loveishard
Aug 1, 2008, 01:48 PM
"sola fide"
I like that one

ChihuahuaMomma
Aug 1, 2008, 01:49 PM
Oh OK, I know who that is now... LOL... sorry I don't watch much TV...

ISneezeFunny
Aug 1, 2008, 01:50 PM
Eh. Kind of like getting parachute pants.. . sure, it seems like a good idea at the time... but... you wear it to your college graduation party... and everyone starts making you do MC Hammer dances.. and.. yeah.

So anyway. You like sola fide? Me too. I... actually might use that.

ChihuahuaMomma
Aug 1, 2008, 01:52 PM
Parachute Pants are TIMELESS!

loveishard
Aug 1, 2008, 01:53 PM
Is it sola fide? With the question mark or no

Ahah maybe that's why I shouldn't get another language.. ut if I know what it means.. why not

ISneezeFunny
Aug 1, 2008, 01:55 PM
Ah, no. no question mark. I was asking if you liked it.

Sola fide

Only faith

loveishard
Aug 1, 2008, 01:57 PM
Oooh OK I got a little confused

But thanks for clearing that up I could only image if I ever asked you that question and actually went and got that tattooed ahahaha
Id be asking only faith?

Like as if faith isn't enough and id feel like a moron

It's quite all right.

The dumbest tattoo was when this guy at a party was showing off his new tat. For some reason, he got them done in chinese and korean. I speak both...

The chinese one was to say "courage" while it said "outgoing" and the one in korean was supposed to say "humble" when it actually meant "shy"

... so... he got outgoing/shy for him.

ChihuahuaMomma
Aug 1, 2008, 02:06 PM
Wow. What a special kid. And this is the reason that I don't think that you should get a tattoo in a language that you don't speak.

loveishard

Wow that must be embaressing
