I'm installing a ceiling light fixture, romex in ceiling and stranded wire off the fixture. How do I splice the ground wires in order for them to attach to the green ground screw? I was thinking of crimping the stranded wire above the end of the romex ground and curling the romex ground around the screw. Is this a correct way to do this?

Wrap romex ground wire around ground screw leaving several inches sticking out, connect stranded fixture ground to end of romex ground with wire nut.

Harold's way doesn't always work, so there are others. Sometimes you don't even have ground screws or the length of the ground is too short or it breaks off.

One in particular, might interest you.

A ground clip with a length of 14 AWG Solid wire. They are a real pain to install. If there are tapped holes available, you can use a ground screw and a length of stranded wire with a fork terminal on it. Bags of these are available at a hardware store. This will alow grounding of the box.

There is another item which can be used and that is a green wire with a wirenut attached through the other end. This can then be attached to the Romex ground and the box ground and give you a free wire coming in the right direction.

Or, get a spare length of solid wire and strip it at both ends, attach one end to the ground screw then put the other end in a wire nut with the ground wires.

Or... do it this way...

Kbuchholt, you should be fine doing it the way you planned. Others just added some extra ways, just in case. Tk---> basically said the same :)

I actually went this way, however wrapped the strand wire around the screw 3 times and tightened, rather than the romex. Thanks to all!

I wrapped the strand wire around the screw 3 times and tightened, rather than the romex after crimping the two wires with a splice cap. Thanks to all!
