In Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs on Windows XP Home, some of the programs do not have the REMOVE button below them. WHY not? How do I remove programs from the Add or Remove Function, when it displays the program, but when I highlight it, it doesn't give the option to REMOVE it?

What programs is this issue affecting and do they have their own uninstall option within their program folder ?

Microsoft certifies applications to run under Windows. To obtain this certificiation, the applications has to adhere to certain standards. One of them being an uninstall procedure.

But there is no requirement that an app obtain certification. There is a cost involved for the developer that they may not want to pay.

Some apps put in their own uninstall routines so you may find one in the app folder. Others don't bother. If there is none, you may have to check the app's website for removal instructions.

The programs in question that Don't have the REMOVE button are ACDSee 7.0 and ACDSee 8.0, Adobe Photoshop Album 2.0 Starter Edition, Adobe Reader 7.0.5, Backup2005 Pro, Canon PhotoRecord, Quicken 2004, SonicDLA, Sonic RecordNow! TuneUp Utilities 2004.

And no, these programs do NOT have their own UNINSTALL feature.

I do have Adobe Reader 7.0.7 and it DOES have the remove option.

It SEEMS as if the older unused programs no longer have the REMOVE button when it should exist. I suspect this is due to some sort of "upgrade" to Windows through Microsoft's automated update program.

I was able to remove both ACDSee, Adobe 7.0.5, and the other files using TuneUp Utilities 2004 which has a feature to remove other programs. It seems that TuneUp Utilities found the ACDSee uninstaller that I could not even find by browsing the directory.

Out of curiousity - what button was displayed (if any)?
