What is it that I need to do in the state of Indiana to give up my parental rights?

Have the baby's mom get married and have her new husband adopt.

Why Would you want to do that? You should have thought about rights and everything else, while having unprotected sex. That's just foolish.

I think the other parent can take them away if you go to jail on a felony also. You can not just give them up. Maybe, and that is just maybe, if the other parent agrees, you go to the judge and he may or may not allow it.

Of course you still have to pay child support even if you sign over rights, unless there is a step parent adoption, so you gain nothing but signing over your rights normally

This is not a parenting issue but a legal issue so I've moved it to the Family law forum. You will find hundreds of threads here all saying the same thing.

Bottomline is that courts are very relunctant to terminate parental rights. Generally they are done only to clear the way for an adoption or if the parent represents a danger to the child. Some states do terminate child support when they grant a TPR, but in those states its even harder to get a TPR. TPRs are never granted just to let a parent out of paying support.

In Indiana support is stopped after a TPR is granted. However, to get one you have to convince a judge to allow it.
