I am an obese female, 22 years old. 174 pounds at 40% body fat and I'm 5"3.

I have seen this equation somewhere for calories needed to maintain weight. Take your current weight and multiply by 10 then take your weight and multiply it by 3 if you are inactive. Then add the two numbers together. Example 174 x 10=1740 plus 174 x 3=522, 1740+522=2262 calories to maintain your weight if you are inactive. Simple rough answer : females around 1500 calories. Males around 2000 calories.
Of course that all depends on your body activities, on what work you do, on how you transport yourself, what sports you do, etc. etc. etc.
