I am looking for a way to have dial up using the sound signal (i.e. dial up and fax) but using any phone with possabley an isp that uses a 1800 number. I want to be able to connect with what ever isp I sign up with but not bound to my curent phone line like if I wanted make a hook up that hooks on the phone's reciver and speaker so I can use it on a pay phone or on the week ends my cell phone. I have an idea how the hard ware should work.

Are you asking about a free ISP here? Not quite sure that I am understanding what you are asking.

Thanks!

I do OK w/ NetZero. I don't know about 800# but it will choose a number of access # from the location you choose (you can have several). It also works w/WiFi. It's fairly cheap - <$14/mo or $9.95/mo if you sign up for a yr (or was it 2?)

(And if you get a referral from me I can get a rebate... <G>)

I have free Internet access for 10 hours a month with either NetZero or Juno. Plus, since I have free unlimited long distance with my phone service, I can use free Internet access services from around the U.S. and also from Canada.

But, I'm not quite sure that free Internet access is what pest79456 is inquiring about here.

I'm not sure either, but in the 70's or in the Teletype technology there was a device called an acousic coupler when all telephones had a model 500 style headset. Speed was 110 bits/s. Thet technology advances to 300 b/s.

Using a modem on a pay phone is illegal and you usually get your money back.

Some Cellphone providers offer CDS or Carrier Switched Data. Rate id limited to about 9600 bps and that service is necessary to send a FAX. A phone number is available to connect to the intenet at that rate, but normal on peak connect rates apply ALL THE TIME.

You can tether your cell phone to a high speed internet connection.

NO I am not looking for free internet. I just want to be able to log on the internet using for example net zero for whome I would have service with but be able to dial my access number from anywhere like.

The fax machine and PC modem use the same thing to trancfer data through the phone line using sound.

I want to be able to dial my access number anywhere and get the "sound" and have hardware that will that will go on the face of any phone in the speaker and the receiver and/or plug in to a phone's audio jack to receive the "sound"

In other words:
I want to be able to access my ISP that I PAY but access them from a payphone, landline, cell etc.

This is old school hacker stuff. Why not just get an AT&T G3 air card or use a cell phone as a modem. These will give you new IP each time like dial up does, however you might still want to use proxies.
