I have a terrible tendency to faint or get extremely close to fainting when I stand up. Whenever I get blood taken for medical testing almost 100% of the time I faint or get extremely nauseous- and no I don't look at the blood or visualize it so I know it's not that. I have a feeling it's blood pressure related but I don't know if it's a specific condition. I'm 17 if that helps any.

Are you anemic?
Do you eat a good variety of healthy food?
Do you take medications?

Try getting up from a sitting position slowly. I have a problem but I have never fainted, maybe feel dizzy but I know my problem comes from medication.

I have that problem sometimes and I am anemic. The previous answers are both good. It may be something related to what you take or something you're not getting enough of. If you are lying down, sit up first, then stand up, and stop for a minute so if you get light headed you can sit back down, rather than being a few feet away and fainting. Also, sometimes I forget and get up too fast and all I can see is black with white spots (guess my blood pressure drops.. dunno if that's from anemia or what) but in any case, I have to squat back down and wait until I can see again, and then slowly stand up. In any case, talk to your doctor and see what he/she says about it. If they aren't worried, it could just be how you are and nothing really to worry about unless it gets worse. Best of luck.

Some things that are good for anemia are molasses and grains, whole wheat and cream of wheat and some B vitamins especially folic acid

I would take iron as a last resort unless your doctor tells you to take it and you need to take it with orange juice.

thank you guys very much. I'll definitely check out the possibility of anemia. What's the chances that I have it if doctors haven't detected it by now? I do take Adderal (SP?) XR and Straterra for my ADD and I also take omega 3 fatty acid supplements. I'm not sure if that could result in the increased probability of fainting. And I love grains! I eat so much bread and pasta haha. My overall dietdefinately needs improvement. I work a full tie job ad I'm juggling my band and (for a while) my girlfriend. I barely had time to eat- let alone cook. I'm trying to better my diet but it's harder than I thought :b

The omega would help you to not faint rather than the other way around

That's strange then. I'll tell you what though, the constant dizziness when standing is really starting to bug me. I have set an appointment with my doctor for next Friday so I guess I'll find out what's wrong with me then. It's been getting progressively worse and it's definitely starting to concern me.

Andrew, I take ADHD medications and those meds should have nothing to do with your anemia (if you have anemia). My doctors always told me my iron was low, but okay. Until I went to another dr. and he did a test which checked my ferriten (sp?) level. It was extremely low. Maybe you should ask for that test. AND EAT, silly. At least keep a power bar or something with you!!

Well I first found out when I went to give blood and my blood floated in whatever they test in in. Short story even shorter, they told me I couldn't give blood. Then I started having problems with being tired, and fainting, and the doctor tested me, told me I was anemic, and I had to get some iron (it was a big dosage, so it was behind the counter, but not prescription). Its also something that you could be anemic sometimes and sometimes not, depending on different things, but I've heard that a lot more with girls in relationship to their periods. Anyway, talk to your doctor about it. They will be able to give you the best answer.

Yes ferrous is iron and a deficiency will cause anemia
And keeping a granola bar is a good idea,
Minerals and electrolytes are also important.

I do eat just not very well. I love to cook but like I said- I have almost no time for good healthy home-cooked meal, so I end up settling for fast food. Bad times. Thanks again for taking the time to help me out! :)

I'm looking forward to what you doctor has to say, if you'll share. I have had the same symptoms all my life and eating does not seem to impact it. My iron levels are fine and my blood pressure is usually around 65/40. That's low and probably the reason I have to get up slowly.
I love your signature quote. Now I'm going to read Desiderata in its entirety and refresh my spirit. Thanks.

I'll definitely share. I don't think I'm anemic but who knows. I think that it'll end up being blood pressure related in the end. Desiderata is an amazing poem. I suggest that everyone reads it.
