How do I safely rid my 6 weeks old puppy of fleas?

When I rescued my now l2 year old walker hound at 5 weeks, she was covered in fleas. When getting her home I immediately bathed her with baby shampoo (having no flea shampoo at the time), careful not to get any shampoo in her ears or eyes. A good wrap in a towel and a long sleep after, she was amazingly free of the pests.
