My old thermostat is a Trane Weathertron - that's about all I can figure out. It has 8 or 9 wires. My new thermostat is a Hunter 40035A. It only has 5 terminals. What do I do with all the extra wires?

You have the wrong type of thermostat.

I hope you kept a list of where all the wires came off the old thermostat. You will need to know exactly where they were mounted so when you get the new correct thermostat you can wire it.

Actually when I saw all the wires I just stopped. So the old is still connected. Where can I find the right thermostat? Everywhere I look only has 4 or 5 wiring.

You need a heat pump thermostat. You will need to search the area where you live to find one or go to Ebay.

OK so if I go to eBay how do I know for sure it will be compatible with what I have? I found a honeywell pro 4000.

You need a 2 stage heat and one stage cool thermostat.

Since I have no model number for equipment I do not know for sure if you have a heat pump but with that many wires you probably do.

As far as I know there is no 4000 model number thermostat.

Below is a thermostat that will work with a heat pump system

Here is a install book for that thermostat.

What you get is up to you.

Good luck with your thermostat discission.

Every thing you need to have is in the install book as far as your wiring is concerned.
