We are trying to install a newer thermostat. The old one has several wires about 8 or 9. the new one only has 4 or 5 terminals. What do I do with all the extra wires.
Old wire colors 2 reds, 1 green, light green, blue, white, brown, yellow

Sorry got ahead of myself. Cental ac/heat. Not sure what old model is but new one is hunter 40035A

You probably have the wrong thermostat. If you have a heat pump you probably have the wrong thermostat.

Not only do you have the wrong tstat,, you have the wrong brand,, get something (almost anything ) besides a Hunter,, junk,junk,junk
