My boyfriend of almost 1 year broke up with me last year. He said that it just won't work out in the future. What makes it harder for me is that he keeps saying that "I was the best girlfriend he's ever had" and "he's had the best year with me". I don't understand why he broke up with me when he says these things and it's obvious that he's upset about the break-up too.

When I tried to get more answers, he started to be a bit cold and asked me for 1-2week/s NC. I'm fine by that, but what I'm scared of is after this.. we plan on being friends. I know I love him enough to respect his decision even though the reasons are a bit hard to understand, but I'm not sure if I would end up wishing to be with him again in the future.

Don't be friends with someone that doesn't want to talk to you. What's the point? No contact, means just that. No contact, not "let's not talk for a little bit, and then be best friends and both forget the feelings and intimate times we've shared." Forget about him, it'll be easier to move on.

He doesn't want to talk to you right now, friends or not, so let it go, and move on, to new friends.
