Hi, last month (june) my fiancé (19) and myself (17) had signed an apartment lease to move into in the middle of August. Within a few days after signing that lease I had a family crisis which made me unable to move in. When I had spoken with the apartment manager she had assured me that I would not get my $99 move in special back (which is fine) , and as long as she could release it we could get out of it without a broken lease or any other fees. Today I called to check up and she has released it but is saying that we owe now almost $700. What can we do? If I would have known we were going to have to pay that much we would have found a way to move in or a way to work it out (which I told her), the only reason I had cancelled it was because she assured me there would be no other charges! Since my fiancé never even spoke with them about breaking the lease would that help our situation? Or, since I was/am only 17 at the time of signing the lease will it void the whole contract without any charges to my fiancé or myself?
