I was caught stealing at saks, I'm 20 years old, they asked me if I had some clothing in my purse I said yes. They took me to the back and took the clothing and started adding everything, it was 1,000 dollars of clothing, 2 pants a 1 skirt and 2 tops. The cops came to arrest me and took me to orange county jail were I got finger printed. I was sent home with an O.R. because I have never committed a crime of any sort. I have to go to court on the 12 of August, what will happen? Is there a possibility that I won't go to jail?
The officer that arrested me told me that I might not because I have a clean record, is this true?

I haven't heard of many people going to jail for first time offense of shoplifting but it is a felony some states like Washington.
What I hear most saying is they had to go take classes and pay a fine and restitution.

It is very possible, since it is 1000 dollars. But you very well should have an attorney.

Since such a high dollar theft you could face jail time and probation time as well.

I also agree that you should get an attorney to help you with this matter.
