I just picked up an 1970? MTD fourteen hundred tractor. The engine is a B&S 14 hp cast iron. I cannot find a tag or any numbers stamped on the shroud. Could the numbers be anywhere else? It came without a carb and I want to get the correct one but need a model number.

Well, MTDOnline.com needs a model and a serial number.

Parts & Accessories | Shop & Find Lawn & Garden, Appliance Parts at Sears Parts Direct | SearsPartsDirect.com from Sears (http://www.searspartsdirect.com) probably needs a better model #.

Home - Briggs & Stratton (http://www.briggsandstratton.com) , I think, will tell you where to look. But, most briggs engines are stamped, on the blower housing. Take the blower housing OFF and look.

Warning... It's not obvious.

There should be numbers stamped on the engine blower housing somewhere. Sometimes they are very faint and hard to read particularly on the older engines.
