Hi I'm in my second week of a physics class I decided to tackle over the summer semester. I am having a bit of trouble with th following problem.

Q. A 150-kg pile driver falls from a height of 7.5 m to hit a piling.
a) What is its speeb as it hits the piling?
b) With what momentum does it hit the piling?

I know that the force of gravity has to be introduced in to the equation. But I'm a bit lost from there. I don't expect an answer. I would just like some help to get going in the right direction.

Thanks,
Eric

Okay, you don't need the force of gravity so much as you need the acceleration of gravity.

You don't need to know the weight of the pile driver to answer the first question. You only need that information for the second question.

I hope that helps.
