What is the normal water pressure one can expect in a single family house? I checked at the sill cock (garden hose connection) in both the front and back of the house and it reads 115 PSI. The pressure regulator in the basement has a tag that says it is suitable for 23-75PSI. And also the same tag says that the set pressure is "std". We had the house built in 1991 and have been the only people to live in it.

You want your house pressure to be 40-45 psi and with your incoming pressure you need a PRV that will handle dropping 115 to 40. If you sill cocks are after the current PRV you need to get this replaced pronto. You might call your water department and ask them what they are putting into their lines, 115 seems pretty darn high unless you live under their tower.

Follow Bobs advice. 115 PSI puts a strain on the joints and faucets in your system. Crank the PVR valve back to 45 or 50 PSI. TO READJUST Pressure, loosen check nut and turn adjusting screw clockwise to raise pressure and counter clockwise to lower pressure. Good luck, Tom
