Can you help me disable the active desktop and enjoy transparent icon background?
I'm referring to Windows xp.

Open the Control Panel (http://www.computerhope.com/jargon/c/controlp.htm).
Open Display Properties.
Click the Desktop tab (http://www.computerhope.com/jargon/t/tab.htm).
Click the Customize Desktop button (http://www.computerhope.com/jargon/p/pushbutt.htm).
Click the Web tab in the Desktop Items window.

First I wish to thank you for your prompt answer.
I'd like to mention that I've already tried NeedKarma's method and it didn't work. Thank you all the same for your help.
I must say the method mentioned in the article recommended by fredg DID THE TRICK!
