Our church is interested in turning our rectory into a thrift shop. Can anyone give me info on where to start? Thank you!

Go to your state building where you file for Tax identification business licenses
And tell them you want to open a church thrift store and they will give you the forms
Ask them what all else you have to do.

Doesn't your minister/priest live in the rectory... or am I having a senior moment?

My brother's mother-in-law ran a church thrift shop. First of all, you have to get quality donations, all cleaned and inspected: coats, dresses, trousers and so on and hang them on a stainless steel rack like in a store, all sized and labeled. Have a table for handbags towels and that kind of thing. No used shoes or pillows.

YOu need name for your business(ReSale Shoppe), a tax identification number for a non-profit business and a bank account. Check with the church secretary about other non-profit numbers you may need, i.e. sales tax exemption... and so forth.

Good Luck... seem to be a very timely business to engage in! :)
