In Louisiana, can a father voluntarily relinguish his rights and if it is possible would he still be required to pay child support?

It's hard to relinquish rights unless the child will be adopted soon after, and no, it does not mean you won't have to pay child support, that is unless the child is adopted.

Generally, a father (or mother) can never take a pass on child support; it is much more painful than that. Here's some info on unwed fathers: Unwed fathers - Preventing your infant child from being adopted without your consent (http://adoption.about.com/cs/adoptionrights/a/unwedfath.htm)

You can only do that if there is someone willing to adopt the child(generally the moms husband). And once the child is adopted you would no longer have to pay support.

One parent can not ever just sign away their rights, it takes court orders, going before the judge. In some areas if both parents agree the judge may allow the one parent to sign over their rights, but this does not stop their obligation to pay child support unless there is another person to adopt.
