My A/c Unit Out Side Won't Turn Off When The Thermostat Inside Is Turned Off.there Is Also Ice On The Lines Outside.I Have A Dual A/c System, One For Each Side Of The House. I Turned Off The Main A'c Switch ,the Fan Stopped And I Heard A Click, I Waited 1 Min. And Turned It Back On Again And Heard Another Click And It Started Again. Does It Need To Set Before It Shuts Down? Should I Shut Down The System And Let It Defrost? Or Does Something Need To Be Replaced.. Thank You , Dave

Dave,

Do you have a programmable thermostat? If you do you might want to check settings to see if test function was left in the "on" position. Also with the ice appearing its possible there's a freon low and/or leak situation. If the ice is on the coils inside the unit, this could mean also that it's low on freon? Possibly the Defrost Circuit Board is "Bad".
Hope this helps walterhouse [email protected]

Is possible the contacter is stuck,, leave the tstat alone, and set to what ever is normal, turn off power to air handler or shut off breaker to airhandler (only),this will kill the low voltage (24 volts )from the tstat ,if the a/c is still running, its very possible the contacter is stuck,, running non stop will make one freeze up sometimes
