Does ones use just regular joint compound for repairing part of a roof?

I have a spot about 18x30 that I had to replace in my bathroom roof. I accidentally stepped through it when in the attic a while back.
I replaced the drywall and now need to get the roof textures to match.
I am going to be repainting the ceiling after I get this part repaired so should not have to worry about paints matching.
THANK YOU.

an 18 x 30 area needs to have the sheetrock replaced, tape the joint, then apply joint compound, you can use the regular green bucket or I prefer the lightweight compound the blue bucket, easier to sand after, your paint doesn't need to match as long as you don't use a dark paint first, don't forget to prime the ceiling also, hope this helps.

Thank you, my main question was what do I use for for ceiling textures? The ceiling was sprayed to that "popcorn effect".
Do I use a joint compound after the drywall is primed? And is there a special brush I can use to get the textures to match? And if so, can that be painted afterwards?
Thanks!

There is paint additives you can use to give the popcorn effect, I have also repaired it by using joint compound with a regular brush, then you can paint it ,if you use the compound and brush method you have to be patient it can take some time but does work well
