I am looking for the title to an anime movie aired in the united states on cable (possibly Disney, maybe one of the "special delivery" programs on Nick, or even possibly on a movie channel).
The only details I can recall about the show are:
The hero drove a sleek sports car, that would enter the back of a large armored truck. This truck could then transform into a giant robot.
The final scene of this movie was of the hero driving the truck down a long, laser filled hallway. I believe the hero reached the "damsel in distress" but died (?) in her arms at the very end.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I am sure you also remember the screeching sirens going off as the truck was filled with lasers. I am happy to report however that I have the answer.
