My husband left in 2005, then filed for divorce at the urging of his girlfriend in 2006. I signed the paperwork. He never followed up and now has to start over. I have since moved on with my life. I no longer consider myself married, but since he did not follow up, we still are on paper. The papers he originally filed are now useless as far as the courts. How can I make it legal without having to take the financial responsibility?

If you want the divorce, you retain an Attorney and file for divorce. If he wants it, then he files - and pays.

If one of you files and the other one wants to make sure the final order is 100% fair, then you both need Attorneys.

Have you checked with the Court and determined that the paperwork was never filed or is no longer good - ?

If you can find him and have him served, you can request that he pay your attorney fees. If you can't locate him and have him served, you can still get a divorce, but you will have to pay for it.
