About a year ago I was in the backseat in a car accident and I cracked my skull and was real messed up. So now we are really close to settling for a little over forty grand and my mom drops an A bomb on me talking about how I owe her thirty grand worth of hospital bills which doesn't sound right I was only in the hospital nine days and insurance should cover most of the bills right. This doesn't sound right to me because its not like she has that much money to throw around does it sound like she is trying to jip me?

Check with the hospital AND the insurance company.
If you can't find out anything then
Tell your mom that you want an itemized hospital bill AND proof that the insurance did not pay it. It is easy for hospital bills to get up that high but the amount would depend on her insurance policy.
Asking her to prove it may put a strain on your relationship but you always wondering might do that too.
