Hello! I am new to the forum so please bear with me :o

I have a GE Side by Side Refrigerator/Freezer. Model #GSS22IFRFCC, Serial #TH216517.
I noticed the ice in the icemaker had all clumped up in to one hard lump and the items in the fridge seemed warmer as well. There was no cool air coming out of the vents in the fridge or freezer.

I turned the breaker for it off and back on and then the air flow returned overnight. I left it for the day and when I came home, things were still cool but there is ice ALL over the freezer (down the front of the shelves, on top of the food, ice hanging off the shelves, and caked up all over the parts at the back of the freezer).

I have tried to read the repair forums but still can't figure out what it might be? A problem with the defrost? A problem with the drain tubes? If you have any information to help me I would very much appreciate it! I can't afford a repairman or a new fridge Oh, and I'm not very handy... so I really don't know what to do. Can you help a poor girl out? Thank you so much!

There is only one cause for fast ice buildup : it can not be from water within, so it has to be from outside. And there is only one source : the water in the air. You must have a leaking door seal (the rubber strip that closes between the door and the housing).

Inspect the seal and try to do a temporal repair.
Order a replacement seal and install it on the door.

Turn off water to ice maker. Defrost ice with hair dryer. See what happens.

KARTHAR123- Have you ever cleaned the coil under the freezer and fridge. You sait that it was warm inside the freezer, If the condenser coil is pretty dirty it can't cool the freon back to a liquid form before getting bsack to the compressor and will not do the job it is susposed to do . I also sagree with the other two about the door seal leaking. Check to see if it is tore any where or if the door & seal is dirty around the door, This needs to be cleaned at least once a month with hot water and soap. To clean the coil under the fridge and freezer disconnect the power take the kick plate off the bottom and use your vacuum hose with a small section on the end and get the dust and fuzz off the coil . Hi everyone! Thank you so much for your responses so far! I did a check of the door seal and that looks fine i.e.. Its clean, no visible cracks or dents (the fridge is only about 3 years old). I defrosted it yesterday night and it seemed to be working fine. I checked it this morning and noticed a little bit of ice again running down the front walls of the freezer (maybe coming from somewhere around the icemaker?).

Once in a while I do hear a faint mechanical noise that sounds like, well the closest thing I Can think of is it sounds like a semi jake braking but really faint haha maybe that's a bad description but that's all I can think of... so do you think it might a problem with the defrost parts? Or some kind of fan that's getting stuck?

No, I think it's a problem with the water valve. Turn off water to fridge. See what happens.
