I bought a 93 honda civic ex coupe. Like a month and a half ago.it was running great now it won't start.I have to keep trying a few times before it would even start.sometimes it turns on and the rpm needle goes up and then back down to 0 and the car shuts off.it got 97,550miles on it.I gave it a full tune up put fuel injector cleaner and the samething keeps happening.this hall weekend it was driving excellent since Thursday.now today in my job at lunch time it wouldn't turn on.like 10 minutes later I tried again and it turned on easy.turned it off again and tried it again and it turned on easy.can anybody help me.I just don't know what it can be.took it to some machanics some say the distributor is bad others the fuel pump.if anyone knows please let me know thank you:)

Replace the Ignition Control Module (ICM) and coil:

Even though I suspect the ICM is the main culprit, I would replace the coil, rotor, and distributor cap, while you have the distributor open. If the problem persists, replace the main relay. I have never seen a Honda fuel pump fail, even though many people replace them.

The Ignition Control Module (ICM) is a small computer inside the distributor that controls when the coil sparks. The ICM needs to "fire" exactly when the Engine Control Module tells it to. ICMs are notorious for failing on Hondas.

This is what the ICM looks like and costs:

While we find your parts, please enter your ZIP Code at PartsAmerica.com (http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductList.aspx?PartType=194&PTSet=A)

Make sure to coat the back of the ICM with silicone heat transfer grease or it will shortly fail.

Inside the distributor. Some of the wires from the ICM will run to the coil. Look for the coil spring electrode.

If you decide to go that route, buy a genuine Honda distributor. We have had many problems on this site with aftermarket distributors for Hondas. Because of the mileage on your Civic, replacing the distributor housing is a good preventive maintenance move. The sealed bearing in them is prone to failure--mine went at 95,000 miles.
