Hi, Earnest,
A siphon works by gravity feed.
Gravity pulls down, toward the Earth's core. If say a hose is full of water, then lowering one end toward the ground, lower than the other end, makes the water flow through the hose, downward, to the ground. It is pulled by gravity.
If the end toward the ground is Higher than the other end, then the other end pulls the water back, due to gravity, cause it's closer to the Earth's core.
