I am waiting to see if I miss my period

Well I started my period and my nipples are still sore. What the heck could be going on?

It sounds that it could have just been PMS, and now it's the simple symptoms that accompany your period. The symptoms may change from time to time. Just keep an eye on your different symptoms when it is your time of the month. It's always a good idea to see your Dr. if you're worried. There could be some other hormonal things happening.
