Hello All,
My Mother has a tree that partially covers the North side of the roof. Now as far as I can tell, the branches are barely touching and the tree itself gives great shade on that side of the house. She wondered whether the tree would cause roof damage or protect it, say in the winter when there is snow. We live in the northeast. It's a Mulberry and grows quickly but the branches are kind of spindly.
Thanks to all who reply!

I don't care for that kind of tree at all but that is up to your mom. It should be trimmed back so that the branches can never touch the roof under any circumstances.

Thanks so much, we don't care for the kid tree itself (the neighbor planted it when he moved in years ago - but it is on our property) but with the heat/humidity in this area I am thankful for any shade from trees!
Thanks again!

Yes, if he touches the roof he can cause damage

If you can safely cut it now, do so before it gets so big you have to pay a tree cutter big bucks to come in and take it down.
