I went to the bank to verify if a cheque I received was ligit , ask me to sit and had me waiting for a long time , next thing I know the police came and arested me for uttering a forged document and also fraud under 5000 is this legal can I sue them ?

I think we need more info - you didn't write the check? It was payable to you and you were attempting to verify that it was legitimate and you were arrested? Sounds like you weren't even trying to deposit it, just verify it.

I don't understand why you were charged if it wasn't your check - ?

Obviously not in US but I don't know if that matters.

Am in toronto canada , no I didn't write the cheq , some guy from the internet sent it to me , all I was trying to do is verify is ligit , I don't even have an account with the bank I when to also I didn't sign the cheque,

Yes it was payable to me , the police detained me for like 3 hours then they let me go and gave me a court date ?

Wow - this is amazing. People are getting taken with these Internet frauds all the time and you tried to keep yourself from being defrauded and you were arrested. Amazing.

I don't have any advice other than contacting an Attorney but please come back and let us know how this works out.
