View Full Version : Guys: Do you have a "type"?

First, there is physically: are you attracted primarily to either short or tall, thin or meaty? How about hair color and face shape? Is there a strong pattern? Or do you fall for all sorts of different types? Or lo, do you prefer variety even?

What about personality? When you reflect on your ex-gfs critically w/o trying to be PC, do you see patterns?

Bump...

There is no need to "bump" a post. It does not get "bumped" to the head of the line again. It will be answered if someone wants to answer it, regardless. It's only been an hour, and it's night time for most members.

bump...
Dang! I was sound asleep until someone bumped me... was that you! (huff!)

Seriously, what's up? You already know the answers are going to be "yes" and "no". Every single person who answers will have a type they prefer and then will tell you if they followed that type. Probably split.

And types are physical, geographical, emotional, occupational, this topic is like shooting an arrow in the air... it's going to go wherever.

So, what's really on your mind? Anything happening in your life that is frustrating you about the guys you think are your type?

I'll try to appease the OP by saying... that I don't really have a type. I'll describe my exes (by exes, I mean relationship exes. I'll spare the one-nighters)

1. 4'10" asian girl with a very petite body and a very small and cute face. She had long straight black hair. She was an avid environmentalist. ...I was not.

2. 5'8" middle eastern girl... caramel skin. VERY skinny... possibly weighing around 105 lbs. Again, long straight black hair.

3. 5'4" asian girl. Curvy body. Long straight black hair.

4. 5'4" asian girl. Curvy body. Long straight black hair.

5. 5'5" persian girl. Light skin. Skinny build. WAVY black hair.

... holy smokes batman... I almost saw a trend. Whew.

Dude ISneezeBatman, are you joking? I totally see a trend there.

They're all relatively petite, black hair, and "exotic" (persian and middle eastern is not so far from Asian, either. Actually, most middle eastern people have ancestors who are asian, african, and sometimes caucasian as well). I bet they all had more similar faces than do most people, too.

Granted, those are only the girls I've been in relationships with for more than 6 months. I've also dated a mix of people. I'm an equal opportunity dater.

Yeah but ISneeze, isn't the point of "a type" more about what "works for you" as opposed to what you'd take a shot at?

You dated other types, and then for some reason decided they just didn't do it for you, or else you'd have been with them longer. Right?

ISneezeFunny

True, I'll give you that. I'm not sure how "types" work for me. It must be something that attracts me to them... but I think it was more towards their personality rather than their looks.

#1, 2, and 4 were those "nice, innocent" girls who've never had a boyfriend before. They were sweet, intellectual, and just overall were "good girls."

#3 and #5 reminded me so much of each other that after #4, when I met #5, I thought I had run into #3! However, both, very much party girls... kinda blunt/in your face types of girls.

I could categorize them by different things: height... whether they had money or not... career choice... looks... personality... what kind of car they drove... etc.

Perhaps you're right that some guys do have a type, but rather saying that they actually have a type, it may be better to say that guys end up going after "similar" girls... doesn't mean that they'll ONLY go after those or ONLY stay with those.

Instead of saying, "this person likes only multi-grain bread" it may be better to say, "this person ends up only getting multi-grain bread"... that person may never know whether they'll enjoy honey oat.

Enough bread talk.

Lol. That was cute, and I like the analogy.

I would say breathing is normally a preference to most men. But not all.
Heck even female is not a preference to all men.

So I would say that there is not really a type that is perfered over all.

I Enjoyed reading this thread, so what the heck.

My type is the average to petite, natural woman.

I don't like make-up, at all.

I prefer that she look the same when she wakes up, as she did while we were out to dinner the night before. No surprises in the morning is a good thing.

She needs to be no more than slightly above the average weight for her height. I know, sounds shallow, but you asked.

No heavy perfume, sure, a little is nice, as long as it doesn't make my eyes water or my nasal passages burn.

The thing that will attract me most, having passed the above tests, is a genuine smile. No, her teeth don't have to be perfect, but the smile has to be natural, not the kind that can be shown to anyone at anytime, just because she feels like she's supposed to.

Other than that, I have always found myself attracted to Asian women, because for the most part, the qualities mentioned above seem to be more evident in women from Asia than for most other cultures.

Finally, a very high level of personal hygiene has always been a requirement for me.

It can be interesting from the other side too. Being of a certain type, I've never dated a man who preferred large-breasted blonds or asian women. Or, that's what they told me.

I'm on the other side of the fence. I like tall men! Short or Long hair. Blue, green, hazel or brown eyes. Just someone that can hold an intelligent conversation. My type is pretty vague. I don't really have type.

Breathing has always been high on my list for men. Hubby is alive, at least for now, Muwhahahahahaha.

Okay, I'm a 5'11" caucasian women, 32 DD, 37 years old, shaped like a pear, not divulging my weight, that's classified, I could tell you, bet then I'd have to kill you. ;)

Now, before I was married and before kids, I was a 5'11", caucasian women, 32 B, in my 20's, shaped like a hour glass, still not telling you my weight.

I've had boyfriends who said they loved the color of my eyes, my hair, my skin, my toenails. I've had boyfriends who loved my breasts, my thighs, my waist, and the fact that my eyes are well spaced (honestly one of them said that). I've had boyfriends who loved my sense of humor, my personality, my intelligence, and my clumsiness, really! I'm so many types, you can't pin me down, really, they broke the mold when they made me. Thank God, right? ;)

Also, thanks, I just realized that I've had a heck of a lot of boyfriends. Sigh. :)

Well, seeing as we're putting our bio stats out there...

5'8" Asian male... 22 years old... athletic type build... brown eyes, dark hair (not really black... kinda light black if that's possible)... no breasts.. if that helps.

I'm breathing :)

Oh, you do too have breasts! Men have breasts, can even get cancer there. I love big pecktorals on a guy, like Vin Deisel...

I have dated but never married a tall man. It hurts my neck to kiss someone over 5'8" unless I'm standing on a box.

Sneezy, you're breathing, I'm surprised with the schedule you keep. ;)

Back in the day... I liked 'em all, fat, short, skinny, or tall, even if they were blind, cripple, or crazy. Can't help it, I love females period, especially if they can talk about stuff. Eyes, and attitude, makes me drool! Brains drive me bonkers. Perfect teeth, and a nice smile, makes me nuts.

If I wasn't married Tal, I'd be your girl. I have eyes, I have attitude, brains, well on a good day.;) Perfect teeth thanks to braces, a nice smile (when I smile, which I do, all the time, drives people crazy). And, oh, you, I'm female. ;) Drool away sweetie. :)

But alas, I am married, and thankfully I'm his type, so that works. :) He's my type too, breathing, stands upright, realizes that 99% of the time I'm right, and knows better than to say that he is when that 1% comes around. He puts down the toilet seat, most of the time. He loves me, even though I'm far from perfect, no where near perfect, but he makes me feel that I am every day. Wow, tear, that was deep. :)

Light black? You're 22 and your hair is gray? LOL.

You know what, funny you mention this?

So over the last couple of weeks, because of mcat studying, med school apps, and new restaurant opening up, I haven't been getting a lot of sleep and whatnot. I go to get a haircut, and my "stylist" (who has been my loyal stylist for the past 5 years) says, "Sneezy...you losing hair? We might need to get you on some rogaine."

... pause for effect.

... then I turned my head back slowly to give her the evil glare.

Hmm... in my experience I have such mixed feelings about guys like this. On the one hand, they can be wonderfully fun and I appreciate the open-minded enthusiasm. On the other hand, I get terribly jealous and insecure when they flirt with me then actually hook up with someone totally different from me.

Ho-hum. I guess I can be a bit anxious no matter what.
