This morning I did not feel like having breakfast. I ate a small piece of cantaloupe and 2 cups of coffee... about an hour later I had a small bowl of oatmeal. That was around 10.30 a.m. around 2 p.m. I started to feel really faint and fixed lunch. I had a 4-5 ounces of chicken breast fried with ranch and hot sauce a small baked potato with sour cream and 1/2 of a sprite... I still felt faint and very tired... Oh and 1/2 oatmeal cookie.
When I checked my blood sugar it was at 90 this was at 4 p.m. I did not start feeling better until around 7 p.m.
Should it have been higher since I had only eaten a few hours prior?

The normal blood sugar, as you know, is anywhere between 70 and 110. So yours was within normal range. I have to wonder how low it dropped prior to your eating.
You had some carbs that take longer to absorb. Have you ever heard of the 5 lifesaver/jellybeans? This helps with a quick fix until the complex carbs kick in.

I thought the oatmeal cookie and the sprite would have helped for the quick sugar fix. Also I usually only have 1 cup of coffee. I wonder if that may have affected me...

The coffee could have. Remember that caffeine gives you a quick rush, then a rapid crash if you are affected by caffeine at all.

It could have been because I like my coffee very strong. I will make sure not to splurge on that extra cup, also I was very tired from lack of sleep this weekend. Maybe is was a combo of all of those factors...
I haven't had a physical this year so I am thinking of getting a check up.

Oh, well now you fill me in on all the facts... LOL
Stress, lack of sleep, etc can cause this. I tend to agree that it was a combo of these things.
Are you insulin dependent or diet controlled? If you are diet controlled I have a few tips for you.

I don't have diabetes my blood sugar and blood pressure have always been low.
The doctors swear I should have diabetes but the test always come back negative.

I was trying to figure out if it was too low... then I was going to visit the doc... my mil is diabetic and has a machine... lol me trying to play doc with myself.

Most people do try to self diagnose. LOL
Could there be other things going on with you? A cold? The flu? Etc?
You know, at our age, when these things happen we feel pretty crappy during the day and better in the evening.

Within abot 2 hours after you eat, you should be near the normal range of 80. You should not exceed about 150 at all within the first 2 hours of eating.
If you want to play doc, you need:
1. fasting level in the morning
2. Before meals
3. 1 hr and 2 hr after a meal and what the meals were
4. Bedtime
For a few days.
Exercise and fluid intake.

Keepitsimple that's too much for me they can do that I was only trying to figure out if I should go to urgent care... I would have it would have been lower than 70.
J9, now that you mention it I am on my period... but it is very light.
Normally when I get low blood sugar I get shaky hands, and a headache and if that goes on for too long I hate to admit it but angry outburst.
Just never had it happen this way, I tend to over worry when things are out of the norm and have to talk myself down.

Now, you can be hypoglycemic or prone to low blood sugar. This might happen because the liver isn't doing it's job by secreting glucogon which raises blood sugar. If so, then it's likely that your norm should be a little higher than everyone else's. You could be labeleled "insulin sensitive" where you blood sugar can both raise and drop very rapidly, The primary way of remedying that situation is very rigig mealtimes and use a diabetic cookbook, so you can make exchanges.
Next time you have an opportunity to measure blood sugar try to be eating pizza, white rolls, white bread or any food with a high glycemic index. These are the foods you have to watch. They cause blood sugar to spike.

My blood sugar has never been high. If my level drops where it causes physical problems and it is because my liver is not performing at top notch then why has'nt a doctor ran furhter test... I was reading last night and the info said lbs was usually a symptom of something else... but I have been doing this for about 20 years and am healthy as far as I know.

Hypoglycemia is normally associated with diabetes, but it doesn't have to be. There are other conditions as well that can cause it. It probably is considered a metaboloc disease.
If interested you may wish to be evaluated by a specialist. We have a center called "The diabetic disieses and metaboloc center."

Let me get this straight, you take your blood sugar measurements, but you don't have diabetes?
You don't have a problem, you are just hungry and you need something to eat! :) You body can adjust normally to the complicated metabolic process in which insulin plays a key role.
Are you dieting? Remember, dieting is eating less food than your body needs in order to cause your body to use stored fat for fuel. Dieting causes a person to be hungry, there is no other way to lose weight; just to be hungry. You can carry a lower blood sugar than when you are eating more carbs and sweets, and keep a more stable blood sugar level, in which case, you should feel very good physically.
