To paint a picture of what I am doing: I am installing a trench drain in an open bay that is attached to a catch basin. It will have a recycling system to reuse/clean the runoff. The pipe exiting the catch basin runs into the room that will contain this rec. system( about 10' away). The problem I have is that my plumber ran the line exiting the catch basin on top of the foundation pad and when we pour concrete it will be very difficult to repair if there is ever a problem. Should he have buried this pipe below grade? What are the implecations of him not doing so? Would it be necessary to run the pipe like he did in order to maintain the proper slope? If so. Why couldn't he use a thrust block? I had the rep from the trech drain supplier look at it and he said it was fine, but I don't necessarily agree. I just want someone's knowledgeable opinion that can lead me to some more information about this application.

Its pretty unusual for a simple line to fail so the closenest to the foundation does not worry me. I do wonder how you plan to use this water since it is not potable.

I am aware that the water is not potable, we will be installing a self contained treatment system on the line that will recycle some of the water, but the rest will run into the sanitary sewer which is connected as well. I failed to mention this earlier if there was some confusion.

I am just trying to clarify: you don't believe that since the pipe is not below the foundation pads it will not cause a problem due to the possibility of movement of the foundation? I have typically always seen my plumbing ground in the ground, and just wanted to make sure that we are not making a mistake?

I think you are basically creating a sump pump pit in reverse and its very common for those lines to be above the foundation. Is feezing common in your locale?

No, we are is near Houston, TX, so we might only see two or three days a year.

Are there any websites that you know of that may give me some more information, or do you have some material that you could send? We would rather have too much information than not enough, and the more I understand about it the less likelihood that we will make a mistake.

Your best bet is to start Googleing the topic and reading several sites that come up. I do not have materials on this topic, still not clear on how this will be of benefit to you.
