I have always heard that that what you fear the most is likely the way you will die. Is there any truth to this?

You will die : that is for sure. Of what? Who knows.
Against that time your present fear may have been replaced by an entire different fear.
The only time you would be right is if your worst fear is dying itself : than you will die from your own worst fear !

If your greatest fear is cancer for instance, you have a one in three or so chance of dying from it.
If someone is afraid of rattle snakes and is determined to overcome their fear by handling rattle snakes, they up their chances of dying from their greatest fear.
But, in general, I don't think it is true. In fact, depending on how you look at it, a person who is afraid of water is less likely to be near water that could kill them. And that is probably true with the other phobias.

If it is true I am now afraid of dying a rich, old woman!

One great president said that one has nothing to fear but fear itself. That is so true. What augments that fear is actually the energy put behind what you fear. That is what can make it come true or at least advance towards it. Now, as to what you fear the most will be the way you'll die, that I cannot believe in totally. A person can fear dying from a nuclear attack and it may never happen in their lifetime. Or they can fear the bite from a cobra snake and never encounter one. So, the thing to ask onesself is why all the fear of the unknown! There are so many ways to conquer fear but the Main One is simply by having Faith in God. For it is ultimately He who brings Strength to the weak and Courage to the fearful. Ponder on that if you will and then align yourself with the Truth in any situation and pray that any fears you have will be overcome by your knowledge that it's all in your mind. When you can grasp that concept, you will find much inner Peace and Tranquility for the rest of your life!

My mother was afraid of drowning. She died of congestive heart failure which is a form of drowning. She discussed this with me many times before she finally died.

In some cases they might have a fear of it because they might of died from it in a last life for instance, if someone is scared of heights they might have died from falling in a past life.More than likely a fear is just a fear.

My mom was afraid of heights, my dad was afraid of failure, they both died of cancer, there goes that theory. :)

I believe it can be true of some people, I knew some that had premonitions of their death that did come true. With some people it is simply fear and doesn't necessarily come true and at most is merely a coincidence.
