Ok, strange as this may sound, I"m curious to know if there are any peoplw who really truely believe in "THE FORCE", and want to be a JEDI. I know of entire web sites dedicated to this kind of talk, and of starting up an order/ academy.

If so why, explain your reasons. I a sure you I"m not going to make fun of you, for I believe in some of the Jedi Philosophies, very honestly.

Peace be with you.

HI Nestorian,

This question actually made me grin, it remind me of lots of surveys that were going on over here when we became part of Europe.

I love my country so their was no way I was going to agree to sign some form stating that I came from else where... many of my friends and neighbours felt the same, so we all put down under the heading... Ethnic Origin... JEDI...

Yes I know it sounds a bit childish and it makes me laugh now, but there was no way I was backing down, especially as it's so important.

In answer to your question: truthfully there is no such thing only in the movies but having said that I know there are many people who maintain the philosophies of Jedi..!

MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU

I believe these may be the same type of people that play act in those medieval re-enactments. Stuck in another time.

Most times were somewhat more interesting than the one we're in now. They should have 60s re-enactments ;)

Humm... perhaps I shold elaborate...

Very well, a jedi is as most know some one of great power and influence. But that's not what I'm asking about. I"m asking about the philosophies, which derive from Kung Fu Philosophies, such as Confucianism, Taoism, Buddhism. As well, as a few religions/ philisophical beliefs, such as Christicanity, and what have you. Mostly Kung Fu tho.

Now the philosophical teachings of a Jedi are:

“Do or do not... there is no try.” - Yoda

"Size matters not,. Look at me. Judge me by size, do you?Hmm? Hmm. And well you should not. For my ally is the Force, and a powerful ally it is. Life creates it, makes it grow. Its energy surrounds us and binds us. Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter. You must feel the Force around you; here, between you, me, the tree, the rock, everywhere, yes. Even between the land and the ship.” - Yoda

“Luke: What's in there?
Yoda: Only what you take with you.” (this one seems a little Zen like.)

“Death is a natural part of life. Rejoice for those around you who transform into the Force. Mourn them do not. Miss them do not. Attachment leads to jealously. The shadow of greed, that is.” - Yoda (this one I think like christianity, kind of like going to heaven, and what not.)

“Ready are you? What know you of ready? For eight hundred years have I trained Jedi. My own counsel will I keep on who is to be trained. A Jedi must have the deepest commitment, the most serious mind. This one a long time have I watched. All his life has he looked away... to the future, to the horizon. Never his mind on where he was. Hmm? What he was doing. Hmph. Adventure. Heh. Excitement. Heh. A Jedi craves not these things. You are reckless.” - Yoda

“[Luke:] I can't believe it. [Yoda:] That is why you fail.”

“Remember, a Jedi's strength flows from the Force. But beware. Anger, fear, aggression. The dark side are they. Once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny. Luke... Luke... do not... do not underestimate the powers of the Emperor or suffer your father's fate you will. Luke, when gone am I... the last of the Jedi will you be. Luke, the Force runs strong in your family. Pass on what you have learned, Luke. There is... another... Sky... walker.” - Yoda (simmular to the idea that all religions try to pass on their knowledge, how ever I believe they should not go knoking on other peoples doors, since that is like trying to force it upon them or so they seem to think, but just teach it in a place where people can so choose weather or not to learn, like a Jedi academy.)

“Named must your fear be before banish it you can.” -Yoda (As you can see these things are quite sensible, and true. Minus the whole light sabers, blaster, star ships, and great powers beyound ourselves bit. It's the philosophies that matter, not the content/ story)

“Ohhh? Great warrior. Wars not make one great.” - Yoda

And so on, and such. Any questions now??

Hi, Nestorian!

Ok, my Force sensitivity seems to be working today. I just got done answering a question on the "mythology & folklore" category where a guy asked for a love spell and I called it a Jedi mind trick. Then I come over here and find your post.

Seems to me you answered your own question: You've been paying attention to a lot of the teachings in the Star Wars movies. Nothing wrong with that. Just because something is a work of fiction, doesn't mean it doesn't have a lot of good, practical wisdom for life. Ursula LeGuin's Earthsea books are like that, containing such gems as, "To hear, one must be silent," and "Power must follow knowledge, and serve need." Even J.K. Rawling has some useful information for those of us who sense the flow of the universe's energy around us (whether we call it Tao, Magick, the Force, or something else) and want to learn more about it.

As a matter of fact, I happen to think Lucas got a lot of things right. Even what he called "midichorines." Humans call them mitochondria. In my homeland, before it "sank into the sea," we called them the Thee, which roughly translates as Little Sisters. They don't experience time the way eukaryotic organisms do. Lucas goofed, though, in thinking they could be passed from father to son. They only pass along female lines. Or maybe that means Padme was an even bigger badass with the Force than Anikin?

We live in a world without a Jedi temple, Hogwarts, or Roke Island, which kind of sucks. It sure would be nice if at an early age those of us with these talents could get taken off someplace where we wouldn't have to grow up feeling like misfits, and where we could learn the right use of power. Hey, at least we've got the internet!

Anyway, keep learning about the Force, but remember: The greater your power, the more you will be tempted down the Sith path. By all means drop me a line sometime. I'd love to hear of your progress.

Blessings of the Lady, and may the Force be with you (same thing).

P.S. "Sank into the sea" is an oversimplified way to describe the closing of a multi-dimensional gateway. But how else were we to explain it to a bunch of stone age humans? ;)
