I have a TroyBuilt generator with electric start. It starts reasonably easily when fully choked, but dies immediately if I push the choke over to run. It will remain running fully choked, but surges constantly. I've tried carburetor cleaner with no change. What should I do to fix this?

You aren't getting enough fuel through the carb. Try disassembling and clean the needle valve and seat. Check for good operation before re-installing the bowl. A bad float would make you flood, the opposite of what you have so skip the float.

Ball is correct, clean the carb through disassembly.
