View Full Version : When is morning sickness too much of morning sickness?

For the past couple of days my morning sickness has been awful. After eating I can barely hold anything down for an hour the most. I'm lucky if I can keep a meal down or even a snack down. When I drink water it makes me feel worse sometimes. I am staying hydrated drinking powerade and drinking as much water as my stomach can handle, but when is it too much morning sickness? I still don't see my doctor until July, but when should I be really concerned and get seen earlier?

I looked over the information on Powerade, and before doing so, I was going to say I didn't think it would be a good idea to have too much of it, although every bottle has l02 calories and you could be getting more nutrients seeing as you are pregnant; you may wish to note it has a lot of salt and that isn't too good.

Nutrition Facts:

* Serving size: 8 fl oz
* Calories: 102
* Sodium: 55mg
* Potassium: 30-35mg
* Protein: 0g
* Niacin: 10%
* Vitamin B6: 100%
* Vitamin B12: 100%
* Filtered Water: 65%

This isn't too bad. Your morning sickness hopefully won't last forever, maybe not beyond 2 or 3 months and then you can think of good things to do for your body and your baby. I don't think you have anything to worry about, but its good that you are seeing your doc in July, not too far off. Make a list of questions you want to ask. Good luck !

Some women will develop morning sickness to the point of requiring IV intervention. It becomes more of a concern when you aren't keeping fluids down as well. There are several things you can try to see if it helps:

*motion sickness bands that use accupressure
*sour candy or peppermint
*ginger... fresh ginger, ginger ale, etc..
*fresh air
*cherrios, crackers, or dry toast before you even get out of bed
*small snacks throughout the day so that you always have a little something in your stomach
*increase your intake of vitamin B6
*small, frequent sips of fluids may be easier than larger amounts all at once

Others may have other ideas that have worked for them... hope you feel better soon!

I would be drinking less powerade and more water IF I could keep water down. I am drinking powerade not for nutrition but to keep hydrated. I would rather something going in rather then nothing and keeping fluids in somehow. It was either powerade, sugary juices, or soda and powerade seemed better then those. But I am hoping I can start holding water down soon. I had gotten too dehydrated during my previous pregnancy and experienced preterm labor because that's how dehydrated I was.

Well powerade and gaterade replace the electralights in your body and for every fl oz you need a cup of water so make sure you drink enough water to not dehydrate yourself while you think you are hydrating. And try crackers they help me maybe they will help you

Becca, if you were pregnant before you know what to expect, but you didn't mention that in your OP which is a little misleading in regard to the information we provide. I still hope you can find an answer.

How was it misleading? Each pregnancy is different so what I am experiencing is completely new to me. I had some naseau in my previous pregnancy but not even close to this bad. I do not know what to expect since I am experiencing completely new things with this pregnancy. All I asked was when does morning sickness become too much to the point where I need to be seen right away rather then waiting until the appointment. I asked nothing else except that.

See, I feel the same way I am carring two babies instead of one and I am experincing different things things I have never felt before and any advice you need you should be more than welcome to ask, and if any thing is making you worrie then call your dr. And see what they have to say sweetie

Becca, answers are based on ALL info a poster can provide about a problem they are experiencing.You could have told us this is your second pregnancy. Did the other pregnancy turn out badly ?
If you are aware of your own body and how it reacts, then you should have no problems your doctor can't handle. I know what you asked, and you have answers based on the I nformation you gave us in your first post.

You gave me the nutritions and facts of powerade. I didn't ask "is it okay if I drink powerade constantly." I asked nothing about powerade so the info you gave me had nothing at all do to about my question. I stated I was drinking powade and trying to hold down as much water as I could so I don't get dehydraetd. My previous pregnancy has nothing to do with this question because this one is turning out completely different. This is not a question to do with my pregnancy history, but with THIS pregnancy. Once again, I just wanted know when/if I should be seen immediately rather then wait it out. DoulaC is the only one who really answered my question.

My first pregnancy turned out to be a complicated one but for an entirely different reason that has nothing to do with this.
