Does anyone know what I could use old used rail ties for? Or even a website that might show ideas on what to use old used ties for? I have quite a lot of them.

Landscape timbers, including flower bed retainers for people who like the rustic appearance. I use some to designate parking stops in my yard. Heavy duty corner posts or gate posts, again for a rustic appearance.

You are talking about the steel rail ties, right?

I was referring to the wood cross-ties, underlying and supporting the steel rails, and attached to the rails with railroad spikes.

I may have misunderstood.

OK, I was referring to the steel metal steaks that are put through the wood the ones that are only maybe about six inches or so long.

What you are referring to is railroad spikes, not ties. The ties are the wood pieces that go across and underneath the tracks.

There are quite a few pages devoted to what people can make of them on the following link. I hope that it is helpful to you!

This is the link, and it does work. Untitled Document (http://www.metalsmithinghowto.com/content/Spikes/)
