A baby kit is going to be full of energy, male or female. After maturity, males will be a little more laid back. Each ferret has it's own personality. But here in the US, most all ferrets sold are already neutered and that also would make a difference. Baby kits need handled and played with a lot to be socialized properly. As for housing, most people keep inside, they cannot tolerate temperature (or humidity) above 85 degrees Fahrenheit, they have poorly developed sweat glands. But I have noticed in the UK, a lot of people have an area for ferrets to be on the outside. If there are any ferret shelters in your area, give them a call, and I'm sure they'll be glad to advise you.

I've read a lot of stories about ferrets with various injuries, and it seems that they are able to adapt very well. And ferrets are known to hide their pain.too. Here's a couple of websites with information about handicapped pets - http://www.handicappedpet.net and Handicapped Pets - For Elderly, Disabled, Special Needs, and Injured Pets - Products, Services, and Support (http://www.handicappedpets.com). Good Luck
