My Hotpoint Mistral Fridge/freezer was making a noise I switched it off defluffed it and switched it back on but its not running and the red light is on:mad:

Most probably the noise you heard was the compressor failing.
You can try the following first, before calling in the repair man :

Switch off the fridge completely for 20 minutes. Reconnect after these 20 minutes and see if the compressor starts again.
Note : when a compressor stops running, the pressure of the cooling liquid is very high. While that pressure is high, the compressor can't be restarted. You should wait at least 20 minutes before restarting again. Otherwise you run the risk of burning out the compressor.

If this fails eat up all that is in your fridge and freezer before it spoils... BBQ time !
