Hi
I have a dell inspiron 6000. Its about 2 years old. Windows xp.
Recently the audio has disappeared. It has a yellow exclamation mark beside it in the control panel and says code error 39- missing or corrupted. I tried a couple of registry cleaners but it made no difference.
I'm afraid to uninstall the audio device as the dell laptop did not come with any discs and I'm not sure if I can re-install it without a disc.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Drivers & Downloads (http://support.euro.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=uk&l=en&s=gen&ServiceTag=&SystemID=INS_PNT_6000&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid=)

Here is the driver download page for inspiron6000 (just expand the audio section and click download now)

I suggest you uninstall the old drivers (should be called sigmatel in add/remove programs) and put these ones on

Post back if it works or doesn't :)

Hi there
I downloaded the file. My own audio device was something called Microsoft Kernal audio and I disabled it. However there wasn't any change after the sigmatel audio drive was installed.

Thanks for your suggestion though.

Microsoft kernel audio should definitely not be coming up there, means your windows installation's buggerd

Quick search on google: very common but no working fix apart from doing system restore to before when it happened or reinstalling windows altogether.

Also in administrative tools>services, see if Windows Audio service is there and running

Hi,
Thought you guys might like to know I got the audio sorted without reinstalling windows or resetting the computer to when I first got it.
I went into the device manager and clicked on update driver from specific location(advanced) instead of the other option (recommended) as I'd already tried it and it didn't work. The Microsoft kernal audio system came up so I clicked on it and restarted the computer.
It was as simple as that- don't know how it got messed up in the first place but its all working now.

Thanks for your help :)
