I'm currently in the market for new furniture and so far I've found that everything is microfiber. I do not know anything about this fabric and am reluctant to make a purchase as I don't trust the durability of the suede-like quality. As the prices are so reasonable I figure it must be too good to be true!

I've heard it sometimes looks like crap after a while, but maybe there's a special cleaner for it?

Microfiber will always look like someone has been there or rubbed it etc. I always prefer real fabrics rather than engineered. You know what to do with cottons, suedes, leathers, linens, corduroys, velvets, etc. No fabric or manufactured fabric is going to actually repel stains. Real fabrics will need to be cleaned but at least they are real or pelts and can stand up to the cleaning. Work with a sales rep at a quality furniture store and find the right fabrics or pelts that could better stand up to your needs. Leather is probably the best overall for children and pets and most people are afraid of it. Shouldn't be. It's durability is incredible.
