Hello I am Jim in Tennessee. I own a yardman Professional series Riding 42" Cut mower and it starts but can't find a manual for it anywhere on how to set the carb. I have emptied all old gas and new gas in it and even 2 new plugs in it and it dies after mowing for less than 3 minutes. Put a new carb kit in it also(diaphragm and springs). I will include the model and serial numbers in this message below this text.

Model Number=13AS699G088TMO-320420S

Serial Number=IC177H30128

Model Number the letter after M in TM might be a D but not sure which.

Even yardman website can't find the manual. Need It desperately or the instructions on how to set carb to get it working properly.

Thanks,
Jim

It's an MTD. Parts & Accessories | Shop & Find Lawn & Garden, Appliance Parts at Sears Parts Direct | SearsPartsDirect.com from Sears (http://www.searspartsdirect.com) will find the model 13AS699G088 .

If you really want the engine manual, you have to find the engine model #. I'm not going through the diagrams at searspartsdirect to find it. That info is in the service manual which cost $.

Carb setting is usually:

Bottom both mixture screws and back out about 1.5 turns. That should get the engine started.

At low speed adjust the smaller screw so that the engine idles smooth.

Move the engine to high speed and adjust the larger screw until the engine runs smooth.

Is it running yet?

No the way it acted the last time I tried to start it. Well it runs it just does not stay running for over 3 minutes. If I try to set the adjusment screws on the carb as suggested then it dies while attempting to let the choke off after getting the motor trimmed out. Think it could have a bad float in the carb or water in the gas someway?

Any help apprecciated.

Thanks,
James

I am not the best Mechanic on mowers.

Absolutely possible for contamination. Also try it with the cap off the fuel tank. If you tear into a carb, clean the entire fuel system. You could also have a blockage in the jets of the carb.

Ok thanks for all the help. I also have talked to a repair shop locally in person and they said My mower has the solenoid on the carb. They said sound like that is the problem. I will try starting it without the gas cap off after work today.

Thanks, again,
James

I have a b&s twinII 18.5hp will start but will only run for 5 or 10sec. Choke has to be on to run(for 5-10sec). Fuel line is unobstructed. Cleaned fuel pump. Disassembled and cleaned with gas. There was some gunk. Diaphams looked OK. Did not just add fuel.

Gas won't clen the carb. You have to use carb cleaner. Spray can works. You have to pay attention to mixture screws and fuel valve. Clen these thourghly.

And FWIW carb cleaner can be used as starting fluid. Starting fluid is not recommended for small engines.
