I could not download the XP2 Service Pak and have it work either. I had to get the disc from Microsoft and use it from the disc. There is virtually no other way to do this. Either go on the site or call them up for the disc. It's your only hope to fix this mess.

Can you post the "exact" error message

Are you using IE or Firefox (what do you use to use internet)

I recently downloaded windows xp service pack 2
After you download sp2, were you able to install it?

Do you get any other errors in the system?

Try and uninstall sp2
How to remove Windows XP Service Pack 2 from your computer (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/875350)

After uninstall, see if you can download sp2 from another source other than using windodws update and try installing that way and then see if this would make a difference

What you would have to do at this point would be a repair installation

Repair Installation
A Repair Install will replace the system files with the files on the XP CD used for the Repair Install. "It will leave your applications and settings intact", but Windows updates will need to be reapplied.

A Repair Install will replace files altered by adware and malware, but will not fix an adware, malware problem.
Perform a Repair Installation (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/helpandsupport/learnmore/tips/doug92.mspx)

The installation disk should have come with your computer. You're supposed to keep those things. If you don't have it, depending on where you bought it from and what kind of computer it is, etc. you might be able to get a new disk from them. Assuming you bought it with Windows installed all legal-like and everything. Where did you get your computer?

Just as a note, just because you can't download something from your computer doesn't mean you can't download it. Download it from someone else's computer, school, library, wherever. Also, I have SP2 on a CD. You can save it to CD and not have to keep downloading any time Windows needs reinstalled.

And people are helping you as best as they can. Desparation doesn't make it go any faster.

Um... just a thought. This is just how mine was set up to work with the XP disk. If I try to just insert the CD and run the setup directly off it, there's an issue with the "key." I have to BOOT to the CD. I'm supposed to be able to do that as is (I have this menu option to "hit any key to boot from CD"), but seems to me I keep having to go into the BIOS and change boot order to start with the CD in order to make that work. (Don't do it often enough to remember exactly.) And once I boot directly to that CD, everything works fine.

Now, that's my computer and I of course have no clue whether this would help someone else... but thought I'd throw it out there as another idea.

I said absolutely nothing sarcastic. Everything I said was in perfect seriousness, and in fact I've been attempting to help you! I can only assume that you just didn't like what I said, despite it being the truth, and therefore assumed I was being sarcastic. Your frustration over this is not my fault.
